9 Reasons Why Jarjum Ete deserves to be MP from Arunachal Pradesh

By Madhu Raghavendra

1. Jarjum Ete is against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill(CAB).

Many indigenous groups across North East and in Arunachal are against the CAB.But, the BJP will try to get the CAB passed, and also mentions the same in its 2019 manifesto.

2. She Is The Face Of A People’s Movement:

None of her team and volunteers who have been tirelessly campaigning for her across the State are paid. Her team comprises of youth volunteers who have come together to work for change and a better future of Arunachal Pradesh.

3. She is a Loyalist:
She has been loyal to Arunachal, she has been loyal to her people. Unlike many others who change party for mere self-profit or at their own whim and fancy, she did it when she realised she needs to step in to serve the people and has not been given a long due opportunity. Some people in the State did not take a second to call Jarjum Ete  an opportunist when she left Congress to join JD(S). The truth is, she stood by her responsibilities as General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress till the last minute, patiently waiting for them year after year to give her a chance to serve her State. Is the role of women to be waiting for men to give her an opportunity? Is it wrong for her to wish to serve Arunachal?

4. No Mudslinging: There are no videos or posts of her, or her volunteers giving bytes on how bad the BJP or Congress or any other party is. Neither she is going around mudslinging at other candidates in the State and hoping she would win from that. She is putting forward the facts that she will be addressing in the future if she is elected.

5. Her Leadership and credentials Are Extraordinary:
Long before she decided to fight for elections, she started working for the welfare of her people. She did not need a position of power to serve the people. She still does not, she will continue to serve people despite the election results. But she should win so that she can work for people from within the government machinery, so that real change can be brought for the better of the State. Her lists of inspiring initiatives are listless, starting from being one of the first Chairpersons of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women to representing the State across the world in high-level conferences.

6. She is Cool and Connected with the Youth:
You will find her encouraging the art works of young artists in festivals in the State or attending small events in café. She is internet savvy and always available to respond to queries on days she is not immensely busy changing the world for good.

7. It is High Time Arunachal Gets It's First Woman MP:
It has been more than 30 years to the formation of the State, to be precise it was formed in February 20, 1987. Recently the State celebrated its 33rd Statehood Day. Not even one woman MP from the State now, really?

8. Clean politics:
In a time when crores of rupees, guns and arms are being ceased in Arunachal Pradesh, in a time when voters are being lured with money by parties, she stands righteously and uncorrupted with her head held high.  She writes in one of her posts that if I win this 2019 Lok Sabha election, I will represent everyone’s interest in Arunachal Pradesh and not just represent those who vote for me.

9. If you aren’t convinced yet, reread the above.

P.S.- If one votes for cash or benefit, then one does not later have the right to ask for development. The right to vote was already purchased. Then you lose your say in right to push for change and local policies later, you lose the right to participate, because your voice was bought already. Your Vote is Powerful! Vote for Change!
